Cement Board Drywall Joint Tape

This self adhesive tape is made from the same vinyl coated fabric that is embedded in the face of some cement boards to give the board added strength and crack resistance. Mix thin set mortar according to the manufacturer s instructions and apply a thin coat over the fiberglass tape with a drywall knife. Apply cement board joint tape to all of the joints between sheets adhering the tape with its self adhesive backing. Screw the drywall to the studs.

Spread joint compound over the length of the tape with a 6 inch drywall knife. Cut drywall to fill in between the existing wall or ceiling and the cement board. Apply a length of mesh style self adhesive drywall tape lengthwise over each of the seams that are between the drywall and the cement board rolling the sticky side of the tape out along its length and pressing it firmly to the surface with your palm. Tape and mud the joints.

Roll alkali resistant self adhesive. Push the mortar through the mesh tape and into the 1 8 inch space between the backer board and the drywall. Mix more thin set mortar and cover the taped joints with a thin layer using a drywall knife similar to mudding drywall joints. Very adhesive and very easy to cut with household shears.

Run the drywall knife over the mortar to create a smooth finish and remove any excess material. The joint between cement board and greenboard is similar to the joint between two pieces of cement board or two pieces of drywall.
